After a several year hiatus, the Peace and Justice Committee was reignited in the Fall of 2020. The work of the Committee will be based in Catholic Social Teaching. As described by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops, (USCCB), the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching are:
During October of 2020, the Committee discussed the first Catholic Social Teaching and the basis for all others – Life and Dignity of the Human Person. Follow this link to view a video that introduces the Teaching.Life and Dignity of the Human Person.
In November of 2020, the Peace and Justice Committee discussed the next principle, Call to Family, Community and Participationand introduced the Civility Pledge from the Michigan Catholic Conference. All Parishioners are encouraged to take the Pledge which is available here: Civilize It! The Pledge.
We recognize as a parish community, we have a history of coming together to serve those in need. Our actions demonstrate our commitment to the fundamental beliefs of our faith. St. Thomas a'Becket will continue our efforts to focus on Homelessness and the Poor and Vulnerable of our region.
