There are several important ceremonies celebrated at each Relay for Life. Below are the specific details of the ceremonies at Relay for Life-Canton. If you would like more general information about the ceremonies, read this Wikipedia article.
Survivors Lap: Survivors can register in the Gathering Space for the Survivor Lap. The Survivor lap takes place at 10:00 AM on Saturday. Please arrive early to check in and receive your Survivor t-shirt.
Survivor Luncheon: The Survivor Luncheon will take place on Saturday, at 11:00 AM. If you are a survivor, please RSVP to this luncheon one month in advance.
Fight Back Ceremony: In this ceremony, participants pledge to fight back in specific ways.
Luminaria Ceremony: The most moving part of the Relay for Life is the Luminaria Ceremony, held at dusk on Saturday night (approximately 9:00 PM). Luminaria bags are placed around the track and the candles are lit in honor of who lost their fight against cancer or who are currently fighting. Participants walk a lap in silence gazing at the beautifully lit trail and honoring the people represented by each luminaria bag. (Find out how to purchase a luminaria in our Support Relay section.)
