ABOUT CATHY HULETT, RECORDS AND POSTING

Born Catherine Mary Buggia and raised in Saginaw, Michigan with 3 brothers and 3 sisters to parents who were deeply devoted to their faith. I attended St. Stephen’s Catholic School from first grade to graduation and was hired by Michigan Bell Telephone Company directly afterwards as a Cord Board Operator. As time progressed so did my career. Within the 32 years with the Telephone Company, I enjoyed the chance of working as a Secretary, Administrator, Dispatcher, and Instructor throughout the Saginaw area, and eventually in many locations within Detroit Metropolitan Area.

My husband, Pat and I met while working together at Michigan Bell. We married in April, 1976 and were blessed with our children, Steven, Elizabeth, and David. Due to changing times and advancement in technology Pat’s job was always victim to closed offices, which meant relocation. For some unknown reason, we chose Canton as our home. What a blessing!

We found St. Thomas a’Becket family so welcoming in 1986 when we moved here, that it has become our second home. As a family, we would come to clean and vacuum the church on Friday nights. I expanded to volunteering in the Religious Education Office during class times, taught classes as a substitute and found a calling. I also became a Eucharistic Minister which brought me closer to my faith.

When I retired in 2004 from SBC, I was approached and asked to join the Staff at St. Thomas a’Becket to handle the records and postings. Since that time, my position has grown to include the Annual CSA Drive and records, maintaining the Walk of Gratitude brick pavers, assisting the Staff with the database and other systems that are in use on a daily basis. During the school year, you will find me working in the Religious Education Office as an Office Assistant, teaching classes when needed, and preparing the materials for the Pre-School and Kindergarten Classes.

I have been very active with the Altar Servers for many years as the Assistant Instructor, and for 5-6 years as the Lead Instructor. I worked with hundreds of altar severs from third grade to college students. Many will become Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Catechists, and Sacristans and will be expanding their faith further. I have loved working with the Servers and being a witness to their faith journey and growth.

You might also see me as a volunteer at the Parish Picnic, the St. Pat’s Party, the New Year’s Eve Party, and Relay for Life, or Co-Chair of the Blood Drives held here at St. Thomas a’Becket.

I feel God has called my name and I cannot say ‘No’.
