FATHER WILLIAM MURPHY, WEEKEND ASSISTANT
Fr. Murphy consented to join our parish family in October, 2004, and has been assisting Fr. Pat on the weekends ever since. Fr. Bill is a warm and friendly priest. You will find him in our Welcoming Area before and after each Mass he celebrates just waiting to meet you!
Fr. William (Bill) Murphy, was born on June 24, 1931, in Windsor. He graduated from Sacred Heart Seminary in 1953 and was ordained a diocesan priest of the Archdiocese of Detroit in 1957. His first Mass was offered at St. Rita’s Parish in Detroit.
Fr. Bill served as associate pastor at St. Philomena in Detroit until 1961, and at Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak from 1961-1965. In 1966, Fr. Murphy became founding principal of Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, MI. He was appointed the Director of Education in the Archdiocese in 1974, and became Pastor of Our Lady of Refuge in Orchard Lake in July 1986. He served there until retiring in July, 2004.
