ABOUT FATHER PATRICK P. CASEY, PASTOR
I am Fr. Patrick Casey, a native Michigander, born and raised in Waterford, the grandson, son, and brother of roofers. I am the fourth of the five children of Ed and Maureen Casey: Dan, Mike, Mary Jo and Joe. In 1981 I graduated high school and joined the Navy, spending five years enlisted with an honorable discharge as an Electronics Technician 2nd Class Petty Officer.
Sacred heart Major Seminary in Detroit is my alma mater, for both my undergraduate and graduate studies, and ordained by Cardinal Maida in May of 1997. I spent three years as Associate Pastor at St. Mary Queen of Creation Church in New Baltimore, four years as pastor of St. Dominic’s and St. Patrick’s Churches in Detroit. In March of 2004 I arrived here to St. Thomas a’Becket as pastor.
I love the priesthood! I love being Irish, I love being a part of the Archdiocese of Detroit, and I love being here in Canton. I am a member of the Canton Chamber of Commerce and a chaplain to the Canton Department of Public Safety (police and fire). I am a member of the Fr. Kern Knights of Columbus Council, the Ryan Division of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, the Tagus Caravan of the Al Hambra, the Fraternal Order of the United Irish, and a member of a very popular local choir known as the “Chowder Society.” My one true volunteer activity is to go to the Huron Valley Women’s Correctional Facility twice a month for Mass and confessions.
My usual column in the Chancellor, “Loose Change” is the way I try to communicate to you not just some of the many things going on around this very busy parish, but also as a chance to share with you my own struggles, hopes, opinions and whatnot. Occasionally Winston gives me an idea or two for the bulletin as well!
God Bless,
Fr. Pat
