HOLY ORDERS

Considering the priesthood? Find out more about the discernment weekend retreat in June.

"Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted to Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1536)

The Sacrament of Holy Orders involves the ordination of men as deacons, bishops or priests.

Revisit the story of God's servant Samuel and reflect on how God might be calling you. You might also read Fr. Mathew's journey to the priesthood, tales from his life as a priest, or Deacon Jim Ward's account of his prison ministry.

The vocation to the priesthood and to the consecrated life constitutes a special gift of God which becomes part of the great plan of love and salvation that God has for every man and woman and for the whole of humanity.
- Pope Benedict XVI

A true vocation is nothing other than the firm and constant will possessed by the person called, to want to serve God in the manner and in the place where the Divine Majesty calls her. This is the best mark one could have to know when a vocation is true. - St. Francis de Sales
