ABOUT BETSY CRAPPS
FAMILY HOME STUDY COORDINATOR
I would like to introduce myself as your Family Home Study Coordinator. My name is Betsy Crapps and I have been a member of STAB since we moved to Michigan in 1995. I graduated from high school in upstate New York and then attended the University of Notre Dame. I met my husband, Wally, also an ND grad, during our sophomore year. We married in 1994 and lived in Florida where I taught school and Wally attended grad school at the University of Florida. (You will hear me chant Go Irish! and Go Gators!)
We moved to Michigan in 1995 when Wally accepted a job at Ford. I taught at Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills until the birth of our first child. We have three wonderful, very busy kids: Katherine, David and John.
I really became active at STAB when I joined the Mom’s Group. That group showed me the true devotion and love in the Catholic community. My big undertaking in the Mom’s Group was the creation of The Mom Prom. It has been a great charity event and women have a fabulous time each spring.
I have been the Family Home Study Coordinator since 2007. This program stresses that the parents are the primary educators of their children in the Catholic faith. It is the parents that surround their children daily with a Catholic culture in their home. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says: “The Christian home is the place where children receive the first proclamation of the faith. For this reason the family home is rightly called “the domestic church,” a community of grace and prayer, a school of human virtues and of Christian charity.” (1666) This program emphasizes the need for parents to form their child’s first ideas about God and His Church. This is a wonderful opportunity for a family to grow closer in their relationship with God, with the Catholic Church, and with one another.
When I am not working at STAB or attending my kids’ sporting events and school functions, I enjoy traveling and reading. I am always looking for a good book. So, please feel free to email me if you have any questions about the Home Study program or if you have a good book to recommend.
