DEACON JAMES WARD
Deacon Jim is an ordained Deacon of the Catholic Church. At St. Thomas a'Becket, he:
- reads the Gospel at Mass and preaches;
- assists the priest at the Eucharist;
- presides at Communion services, weddings and baptisms,
- counsels parishioners whose lives have been touched by crime or prison;
- serves as the chaplain for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
He works primarily in prison ministry as a volunteer chaplain and Head of Religious Volunteers. This work includes:
- Visiting the inmates at the Huron Valley Women's Prison;
- Conducting Communion services and Bible studies;
- Counseling women and their families;
- Coordinating volunteers to visit the prison;
- Offering an approachable, non-judgmental acceptance and outreach.
