CHANGING LIVES TOGETHER
Dear Friend in Christ,
I am excited to introduce the Changing Lives Together Campaign to you. This campaign is all about St. Thomas a’Becket and the parishes of southeast Michigan working together to truly change lives for the better. Changing Lives Together will invigorate and strengthen each and every parish in the Archdiocese and raise
funding for these strengthening initiatives.
St. Thomas a’Becket is a very active and vital parish community. We will all benefit from the campaign. We will all be making an investment in ourselves and our future by supporting our parish community. This campaign will help our parish to:
- Expand parking space;
- Enlarge and upgrade kitchen facilities;
- Remodel the Family Life Center;
- Improve the sound system in the Family Life Center;
- Add a multi-purpose recreation center;
- Increase storage;
- Remodel and expand priests’ living quarters.
The campaign throughout the Archdiocese will:
- Provide the opportunity for 274 parishes to conduct an individual campaign to address their own unique needs;
- Strengthen our endowment for tuition assistance for Catholic elementary and high school students;
- Meet some critically long overdue preservation and renovation needs at Sacred Heart Major Seminary and establish a fund to support the continuing formation of priests and lay ministers;
- Provide much-needed resources to ensure that the Archdiocese can maintain a strong presence and ministry in the City of Detroit.
We are inaugurating one of the biggest efforts ever undertaken by the Archdiocese of Detroit. The campaign will strengthen God’s people and ministry for years to come. As we begin the Changing Lives Together Campaign, I encourage you to:
- Inform yourselves of our parish and archdiocesan goals;
- Pray daily for our parish leadership, responsive hearts, and for a successful campaign;
- Please say “yes” to your fellow parishioners when they call you to be on their teams and to be part of this great work. A list of those who have already volunteered for this effort is attached.
The Campaign, at its best, will help to unify our parish, bring forth new leaders and volunteers, give us a greater understanding of stewardship, cause people to come back to the Church, bring people a measure of healing, and even increase our parish’s Sunday stewardship. It is a “campaign,” and so much more. And it will truly change lives if we all work together. Yours in Christ,
Fr. Patrick P. Casey
“Not Equal Gifts, But Equal Sacrifice!”
A principle of stewardship is to give as we have received. Some have received little and can give little.
Some have received much and can give much. But if each of us gives in the measure we have received, then
each of us gives like a king! So, none of us will be involved in the same way or give in the same way, but all
of us are called by Christ to sacrifice in the same way. God has plans for you, and God wants to work
through you today. So pray every day and always, “Lord, what do you want to do – through me –for my
parish and for my diocese?” And when we respond as He prompts us, we will bring Him pleasure and joy and
see that His love has made a home in us.
