ANOINTING OF THE SICK

Purpose and How to Obtain Sacrament
The special grace of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick has as its effects:

  • the uniting of the sick person into the passion of Christ, for his own good and that of the whole Church;
  • the strengthening, peace, and courage to endure in a Christian manner the sufferings of illness or old age;
  • the forgiveness of sins, if the sick person was not able to obtain it through the sacrament of Penance;
  • the restoration of health, if is conducive to the salvation of his soul;
  • the preparation for passing over to eternal life.
    (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1532)

If you would like to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, please contact the Parish Office at (734) 981-1333. Please let the office staff know if the call is an emergency. After hours or when the office is closed, the Parish Office voice mail message will provide the priest's contact information so that you may page him in case of emergency.

Dealing with Illness or Funeral Planning
Are you struggling with an illness? Preparing for your own funeral or that of a loved one? Grieving the loss of a loved one? Pastoral Associate Debbie Miller visits the sick at home and in the hospitals, is often present with a person who is dying and their family, helps families to prepare for the funeral and follows up with those who are grieving. Contact Debbie Miller for counseling or assistance and alert her to those in our community who may benefit from a pastoral visit. You can reach her at (734) 981-1333 x16. We also maintain a resource page online and an online obituary section for parishioners who have died.
